The Disappointments of Windows 7…Already

One of Microsoft’s main goals with Windows 7 is to improve performance. However, less than a week after Microsoft launched their Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC), they had to release a fix for an “access is denied” error message when certain tasks are attempted. Now, while the release does fix the error, Microsoft still suggests to reinstall Windows 7 RC to play it safe.

So much for improving performance, right? What’s more is that PC World did a test on the speed of 7 RC and low and behold it has proven there really isn’t much of a noticeable difference in speed.

In the PC World Test Center, they loaded Windows 7 Release Candidate on three systems (a laptop and two desktops), ran their WorldBench 6 and then compared the results with the three systems running Vista. They found the difference was less that 5%, which most likely wouldn’t even be noticeable to the average user. Read more here.

Okay, Who Wants Benefits?

As quite possibly one of the most highly regarded Microsoft certifications, becoming MCSE certified has its share of benefits. With an MCSE certification: you prove the quality of your knowledge and skills and receive recognition in order to get more recognition from your employer; you stay competitive in this cutthroat economy and already-competitive field; you could have a “get-out-of-jail-free” card when it comes to losing a job versus keeping it or even getting a promotion; and you have the ammunition to get a higher salary than your non-certified counterparts. So really, what’s not to like about MCSE?

Getting your Microsoft MCSE online training from CBT Direct has plenty of benefits, too. Take a look at why we’re your best choice to gaining more knowledge, more skills and more dough here.

The MCSE cert is perfect for those IT professionals interested in the following job positions: Network Administrator, Windows Administrator, Senior Network Engineer, Windows System Engineer, Linux Administrator, IT Manager, Unix Administrator, Network Security Specialist, Senior Security Engineer, Information Security Manager or a Chief Security Officer. RFID Saves Big Bucks

Employees at the Wells Fargo Bank’s data center in Roseville, California stand in a long line at the end of each work day, just waiting to get their laptops checked by a security guard to make sure the serial number matches the number filed under their name. Mike Russo, Senior VP of Automated Identification Technologies, finally decided to speed up the process by trying RFID (radio frequency identification technology), where employees can simply pass the laptop over the RFID scanner and their picture pops up on the security guard’s screen.

Russo was so happy with how well his RFID solution worked that he applied it to their inventory issues as well. What took his team weeks to take inventory by using bar code scanners could be done in a single day. RFID is becoming the answer to everyone’s prayers within financial institutions. So just how fast will RFID catch on? Read more about this in ComputerWorld’s article.

How to Become “Best Manager” to Your Workforce and the Forces That Be

Being a good manager means getting along with all kinds of people of opposite needs and opinions. Sometimes a manager’s toughest challenge is how not to be a people-pleaser. You can’t always please your employees when you have to please the boss first and foremost, right? Your communication skills will determine how successful you are at being a manager. Now, when was the last time you tried to improve your communication skills?

Managing is all about how well you can communicate with others. Communicating a shared vision, for example, from the big boss to your staff can be a difficult task. You must communicate the vision to them in a way that attains their full commitment and understanding and set realistic goals in order to enable and motivate them to get the job done…and done right.

Managing a project can be a scary thing, whether you have experience in it or not. But if you know the necessary steps and communication techniques to follow, you’ll be ready to plan, troubleshoot and supervise your project into a complete success. With CBT Direct’s online management training, you’ll learn how to: give successful presentations, initiate and plan your projects to get the most out of your staff; conduct effective meetings and save time with secret troubleshooting techniques; use project management fundamentals to relieve some of the stress during crunch-time; turn your management skills into a leadership role; and more.

With the release of Star Trek over the weekend, we thought it only proper and fitting to highlight a few items in PC World’s article on the influences and predictions that Star Trek has had on technology over the past four decades. True or no? You decide.

The Handheld Communicator - Here is proof that flip cell phones were inspired by Star Trek. Just look at the resemblance. Perhaps we should look into their contracts and payments plans to improve our own. And, how do we follow their example and do away with cell towers and satellites all together?

Communications Earpiece - Who’s not a believer yet? Lieutenant Uhura wore the first wireless earpiece that inspired Bluetooth technology. Something tells us that she’d like the modern rendition so much that she’d sport two and wear them like jewelry (know anyone who does that?).

PADD (Personal Access Display Device) - This is the Star Trek’s prediction of the Smart Phone. The PADD was a handheld that could file diagnostic reports and duty rosters, among other routine Starfleet tasks. They both have a touch screen and a couple of external buttons, but the Smart Phone would probably be a little more sensitive to a 35-meter drop and wouldn’t exactly live long and prosper in the realms of Star Trek.
