Get a Job with a New Cert

Times are tough out there and so many techies are looking for that one thing that will set them apart from the rest of the competition. Take a look at your resume. Is there something on it that shouts, “Hey you, hire ME!”?

TechRepublic list some really good reasons why certification will be important this year, and getting hired is a big one. As they mention, certs also help with retaining your job, they can give you a leg up on the competition for a promotion and they can help you maintain your salary, too.

What’s more, the oath you took when you first became a techie was to promise to keep up with technology. Certs prove you’re doing your duty, improving your career and continuing to increase your relevance in the tech world. And as organizations are forced to be pickier about their IT staff, they must also minimize downtime and reduce costs whenever and wherever possible. With all of this added stress to your already full workload, wouldn’t a little added confidence help you through your tough days? For more of the same, take a look at TechRepublic’s list here.

Here are a few lists of top tech certifications predicted for 2009 by different sources for your comparison needs: Certificationsblog, About.com and ZDNet. Our new website features our online training IT courses divided into these career categories for easier reference: PC Repair and Support; Network Administration; Security; Web Design and Development; Database Administration; Programming; and Project Management. Then, you can also search for courses by vendor. Desperate times call for desperate measures, right? However, why not try a cert - the most logical measure - first.

The Best Boot Camp Instructors Around

CBT XPress Boot Camps are filling up extra fast lately, but there are still limited seats available for our spring camps. If you’ve been thinking about getting certified lately, but you’re concerned about just how much you’ll gain from the boot camp, take a look at what one of our customers had to say about our instructors:

“I am writing this message to compliment CBT XPress on the Boot Camp training that I attended over the last nine days. More specifically, I would like to commend the instructor for the superb job that he did in transferring the relevant knowledge and preparing us for these certifications. Our instructor proved to be a very knowledgeable IT expert that transferred his knowledge very effectively over the nine-day period.

I manage a team of individuals that provide technical support to my company’s customers. We support DWDM and SONET/SDH infrastructures, but in today’s environment, we need to have some knowledge of the end-user applications that our customer’s customers rely on. Everything that our instructor said was focused on the objectives of obtaining the knowledge that lead to the certifications, and he was always available for sidebars to talk about technical issues that were not within the scope of this Boot Camp. I left the CBT XPress Boot Camp with three certifications and a world of knowledge.

I have another person that I am going to recommend to attend this and I may be able to get more of my team into this later in the year. I have attended many Boot Camps on the technologies that I am responsible for supporting and none of them come close to being as good as this one. It was CBT XPress’ instructor that made it superb! The entire CBT XPress experience was definitely worth the investment!

Good Job, CBT XPress, for having professionals like your instructors representing you.”

Tech Toys

Well, since we are “forced” to share some tech toys with you every week, here are a couple we read about for the sole purpose of this newsletter (because we never look at these just for fun, never…):

Nintendo DSi - Take two cameras, a music player and a hand-held game system and condense them into one device and you have the third version of the Nintendo DSi. Two cameras sound a bit redundant but not when each one has 11 different virtual lenses, with dozens of special effects. This new DSi is smaller than the DS before it, with a larger screen and enhanced Wi-Fi support to download new games and surf the net.

Bluetooth 3.0 - We’re excited about the advances being made to Bluetooth and can’t wait for the release on April 21st, so we decided to talk about it now. The new 3.0 is said to deliver even faster short-range wireless speeds (up to 480 Mbit/s), reduce device disconnections when syncing and add Generic Alternate MAC/PHY (AMP) technology to allow data transfers like that of Wi-Fi. Rumors have it that the Bluetooth 3.0 will be capable of transferring an entire music library or a complete DVD all within seconds. We’ll have to wait and see…
